Fall, or autumn, is the season of Metal in Chinese Medicine. It is the time for cleansing the large intestine (the seat of sensitivity), the liver, and balancing the pH. Detoxification done by doing internal cleansing is a wonderful way to prepare your body for the cold winter months, which is the time for rest (think of hibernation).
The intestinal system should always be supported by taking good probiotics (friendly bacteria). We want the "good guys" to outnumber the "bad guys". By continually populating the gut with probiotics, we can accomplish this. Colon cleansing is NOT taking laxatives or enemas. It is a gentle herbal way to get things moving more efficiently, cleansing of the entire intestinal system, both the small and the large intestine. This can be followed by colon hydrotherapy, which cleanses the lower bowel.
You change the oil in your car if you want to maintain the engine. Why would you not do the same for your body, YOUR high-performance engine? I recommend intestinal cleansing at least with each change of season, which is a good way to remember it is time to cleanse. I personally do herbal colon cleanses more frequently because I feel better overall after doing so.
Don't forget the "bad guys" - the parasites that live with all of us as part of our ecosystem. A parasite cleanse should also be done fairly regularly and there are 2 types that I like to use - one consists of taking pre-measured packets of capsules for a couple of weeks and the other consists of taking capsules and drinking a liquid herbal tincture for one month. Both are good, and I like to rotate with them, using one method for one cleanse, then the next time I decide to do a parasite cleanse, use the other one.
By the way, the same should be done with your probiotics. They should also be rotated through the various types because your body gets used to taking the same thing all the time and responds better when you rotate. As an example, let's say you start by taking acidophilus. Finish that bottle, then go to bifidophilus. Finish that one and go to Probiotic Eleven, etc., continually rotating through the various types.
